The Significance of the Butterfly - Butterflies are a symbol of hope for people living with lupus. We have designed the cover of our cookbook with that in mind. Many people living with lupus experience a distinctive facial rash that reaches over the cheeks and the bridge of the nose. The rash may be a slight blush or quite visible. Its pattern is shaped like the wings of a butterfly. Today, the butterfly rash is probably the best known characteristic of lupus. It is a symptom that aids in the diagnosis of this complex disease. Early detection is important in controlling lupus.
